Alert: Ditko’s Gorgo Surfaces!

[Ditko Monsters Gorgo Cover]This January, the world is set to come under vicious attack. As ocean waters tremble and churn, undersea volcanoes violently erupt, and the giant lizard monster Gorgo rises once again to terrorize a woefully unprepared populace!

IDW Publishing and Yoe Books are thrilled to announce Ditko Monsters: Gorgo!. The first in a series, to be followed by Ditko Monsters: Konga!, this volume collects the complete run of Ditko’s Gorgo: over 200 pages of explosive, destructive Gorgo action. This hardcover volume is absolutely packed with towering monster art by the inimitable comics legend Steve Ditko.

Drawn at the same time Ditko was doing landmark work on Spider-Man and Doctor Strange, Gorgo was ripped from the reels of its cinematic origins and thrust into the pulpy comics spotlight. Seemingly unstoppable, Gorgo takes all comers as he stomps across the globe in adventures penned by fan-favorite writer Joe Gill with book design and an introduction by Eisner Award-winner, Craig Yoe.

A bona fide art legend, a vicious monster laying waste to highly populated urban areas, and an oversized, full-color hardback? Ladies and gentlemonsters, Ditko Monsters: Gorgo! has it all!

DITKO MONSTERS: GORGO! (FC, 224 pages, $34.99) is in stores 1/30/13. Diamond code: NOV120414

All Hail Ditko!

ALL HAIL DITKO!
The Creativity of Ditko is coming for your minds this July!

[The Creativity of Ditko Cover]San Diego, CA (May 31, 2012) – Celebrated, mercurial, enigmatic, and influential are a few words that have been used to describe legendary comics creator Steve Ditko. Co-creating Spider-Man and Doctor Strange with Stan Lee are only a couple of achievements earned by Ditko in his storied career.

Since his Marvel and DC days, Ditko has produced a litany of fiercely independent, wildly creative works; many of which are collected here in this large-format, oversized, full-color hardback for the first time! THE CREATIVITY OF STEVE DITKO, designed by the Eisner Award-winning Craig Yoe features essays by Paul Levitz, Mike Gold, Jack Harris, Mikal Banta, and Amber Stanton.

Yoe, who credits Ditko comics as what inspired him to be in this field and is one of the few people that has been invited to the creator’s studio says, “Yoe Books’ very first offering was The Art of Ditko. Over two years and many books ago, it was enthusiastically received. Now I’ve endeavored to make this our best book yet. I am thrilled with the über-creative comics we present here and the original art, much of it unpublished. And the nearly one dozen never published photos of the elusive artist make this a Ditko fan’s dream come true. This is going to be a must-have but very controversial book! Bring it on!”

Hitting shelves July 25th, THE CREATIVITY OF STEVE DITKO also touts a myriad of unpublished art, sketches, and photos of the legendary creator.  For fans of Ditko, comics history, or simply art itself, this is an IDW and Yoe Books experience that is not to be passed up!

Craig Yoe is available for convention appearances and interviews with the press in regards to this and his other books. Find Yoe Books’ online at http://yoebooks.com and http://www.youtube.com/theyoetube.

CREATIVITY OF STEVE DITKO ($39.99, 208 pages; 9.5” x 12.5”; hardcover) will be available in July. ISBN 978-1-61377-276-8.

YOE AND IDW LIFT THE BAN ON “ZOMBIES”!
The Chilling Archives of Horror Comics open for another epic dose of terror May 30th!

[Zombies Cover]San Diego, CA (May 29, 2012) – In the shuffling, deranged footsteps of Dick Briefer’s Frankenstein and Bob Powell’s Terror comes a thrilling, spine-tingling collection of classic, taboo horror comics.  Hitting shelves with a vengeance tomorrow, IDW Publishing and Yoe Books are proud to present ZOMBIES!

It’s difficult to imagine an era where work from comics titans like Wally Wood, Gene Colan, Bob Powell, Reed Crandall, Jack Cole, and Lou Cameron was kept away from readers, but these 1950’s zombie tales were so terrifying, parents and politicians the nation over made sure they were banned!

Conjured back to print by Eisner-winning Editor and designer Craig Yoe, these classic, lost tales are being reproduced in astonishing detail in a beautiful hardcover edition that belies the unstoppable, macabre forces within!

Complete with an introduction by the book’s co-Editor Steve “Karswell” Banes, host of the popular “The Horrors of It All” vintage comics blog, ZOMBIES is a must-own tome for lovers of the undead!

Discover The Funny Side Of Frank Frazetta

DISCOVER THE FUNNY SIDE OF FRANK FRAZETTA!

A wealth of rarely-seen material by the late master returns this week!

[Frank Frazetta Funny Stuff Cover]San Diego, CA (April 23, 2012) – Frank Frazetta has been called “The Grand Master of Fantasy Art,” but did you know he did a glorious omnibus’ worth of funny sexy and funny cute stories in the Golden Age of comic books?! That’s right, hillbilly babes to hoppy bunnies were drawn with the Frazetta magic. And Eisner-winning editor Craig Yoe captures that magic in the new FRAZETTA—FUNNY STUFF large format, full-color, 256-page hardcover collection from Yoe Books. FRAZETTA—FUNNY STUFF debuts at the MoCCA Fest in New York City this weekend and will be in comic book shops this week.

Yoe says, “Besides the amazing art itself, Frazetta fans will be stoked by the sheer quantity in this big thick book. There are 27 comic book stories, well over 200 of The Master’s delightful text illustrations, and tons of rare and unpublished original art, illustrations and photos carefully reproduced in the introduction.”

Frazetta’s “Fire and Ice” collaborator Ralph Bakshi provides a compelling freeform, stream of consciousness introduction that you have to read to believe. Dig the beatnik beats of this hep cat sharing his story of working with THE MAN. Only Craig Yoe can conjure up such wild and unexpected material![Frazetta Interior Page #1]

“The team at Yoe Books put countless hours in restoring these charming strips to ensure a proper vintage reading experience,” said IDW Senior Book Editor, Justin Eisinger. “Like each and every Yoe Book, FRAZETTA—FUNNY STUFF is a lovingly created artifact that itself is a piece of art.”

But don’t just take our word for the glory of this vintage Frazetta. Here’s what some fine, respectable folks have to say about the man and his funny work.

[Frazetta Interior Page #2]“Frank Frazetta… his comic book output was unforgettable!” —Harvey Kurtzman

“You don’t have a full picture of Frank Frazetta until you’ve seen his funny stuff. It was his own favorite work, as it captured an important aspect of Frank that his sword and sorcery paintings did not—his warm sense of humor.” —William Stout

Why stop there?! Even the great talent himself was known to claim that the funny side was the real Frazetta.

“I do reveal that dark side in some of my work. I am known for my violent stuff. But the funny stuff is the real me.” —Frank Frazetta
[Frazetta Interior Page #3]
Pappy’s Golden Age Blogzine says that FRAZETTA—FUNNY STUFF is “a long overdue compilation! The book is beautifully produced. I love the over-sized pages, and especially the enlarged spot illustrations. As always, Craig’s books are impeccably designed and printed. Permanent binding, thick quality paper to ensure the best reproduction possible. You will never go wrong buying a book with the Yoe Books imprint.”

Keep an eye out for the limited edition as well. A hot ticket item at 100 copies, it features a bookplate signed by Yoe as well as a variant cover featuring a rare drawing of one of Frazetta’s much-lauded sexy gals!

Craig Yoe is available for convention appearances and interviews with the press in regards to this and his other books. Yoe Books’ website is http://yoebooks.com

All-New Popeye Comics Debut in April

Acclaimed creator Roger Langridge to write series

[Popeye #1 Cover A]San Diego, CA (January 18, 2012)—IDW Publishing today announced that comic industry star Roger Langridge will write the company’s all-new POPEYE comic series, which will debut in April 2012. Expanding their partnership with King Features to include new material, IDW’s POPEYE comics will offer all-new adventures with the famous “Sailor Man” and his friends, including Olive Oyl, Bluto, Wimpy and Swee’ Pea. Joining Langridge to bring Popeye back to comics is rising-star artist Bruce Ozella. The monthly POPEYE series will be co-edited by IDW’s co-founder and chief executive officer, Ted Adams and renowned comics expert Craig Yoe.

“I grew up reading Segar’s Popeye and we’ll be bringing his sensibility to our new series,” said Adams. “Especially now with our all-star creative team, I’m really looking forward to launching this series in April.”

[Popeye Interior Page]Throughout his more than twenty years in the comics industry, Langridge has garnered critical and fan acclaim for his work on an impressive list of projects, including the Harvey Award-winning Muppet Show Comic Book (Boom! Studios) and Thor: The Mighty Avenger (Marvel Comics).

“Ever since I was a kid, the two cartoonists who have had the biggest influence on me have been Carl Barks and E.C. Segar, so getting a chance to write Popeye is quite a thrill,” said Langridge. “I’m especially pleased that IDW have decided to go with a Segar-flavored interpretation. As much as I like some of the later versions of the character, for me, it’s those early strips where the magic really happened. Just as well Segar drew everybody with big feet, because Bruce and I have some enormous shoes to fill!”

[Popeye Variant Edition]Created by Elzie Crisler Segar in January 1929, Popeye the Sailor Man quickly became one of the most popular and enduring comics characters of all time. In addition to headlining his own comic strip for over eighty years, Popeye has also been featured in television cartoons, video games, live action movies and countless merchandise.

POPEYE #1 debuts in April, featuring a cover from Bruce Ozella, and a rare incentive cover from Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Jules Feiffer.
