History is Re-Written This April in What If: Age of Ultron!

If you thought the Age of Ultron turned the Marvel Universe on its head, you won’t believe what will happen in What If: Age of Ultron, a mind-bending  five-part series from Marvel Comics! They say one person can truly make a difference, and that statement couldn’t ring truer for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. So what if another founding Avenger had died in the Golden Age of Heroes instead of Hank Pym? Could the reality we know endure without one of its strongest pillars? The short answer is—NO!

Each issue of What If: Age of Ultron explores a Marvel Universe without one of it’s greatest champions. Imagine—an Armor Wars without IRON MAN! A RAGNAROK without THOR! A country without CAPTAIN AMERICA! Written by rising star Joe Keatinge and an assembly of tomorrow’s hottest artists, What If: Age of Ultron hits hard with its twisted takes on the Marvel Universe!

Was the Age of Ultron truly the darkest reality that the Avengers could endure?

Review – Uncanny Skullkickers #1

uncannysk01_coveraWith one of the best press release campaigns of recent memory leading up and promoting it, there was some high expectations from me when I sat down to read Uncanny Skullkickers #1. I’ve read the majority of the previous eighteen issues, and the series is one I always thought deserved WAY more attention than it got. After a too long break, this week sees a new release, either the nineteenth issue or the first issue of an “uncanny” new series. Either way, the issue kicks ass!!!!

This is the first issue of the second story, an excellent jumping-on point for folks. While bald, gun wielding Rex is still a main focus, his former dwarven partner gets his own journey and story in this same issue. Instead, Rex is now dealing with Kusia as they’re stranded on an island after being shipwrecked. The two do as you’d expect, deal with being shipwrecked and stranded, so getting food, building shelter, stuff like that.

So, there’s not tons of action here, but the issue’s humor is front and center. Skullkickers has always been a series that mixes humor and action and does it damn near perfectly. It always exudes fun, and this first issue is no exception. Jim Zubkavich is a master of these types of comics, with series and more (if you can’t get enough).

Edwin Huang‘s art is amazing as well. The style is clean with an almost animated look to it all. It’s a style that fits the fun tone of the comic’s story.

Between the story and the art, Skullkickers is a series that captures the fun of the types of fantasy stories that are told with a twenty sided die at so many dinner tables every week. It’s a D&D campaign that’s gone completely off the rails. It’s been too long of a break for the series. I’m psyched it’s back and you should read this to find out why you should be psyched too!
