Red Sonja & Vampirella Meet Betty & Veronica Extended to 12-Issue Series!

Dynamite and Archie Comics have announced the extension of the Red Sonja & Vampirella Meet Betty & Veronica series, doubling from 6 issues to 12! 

The same beloved creative team, top to bottom will pick right up with issue 7 this November. Amy Chu continues her victory lap writing Red Sonja following her acclaimed run with Carlos Gomez. Plus her further exploration of Vampi and Riverdale’s leading ladies. Maria Sanapo will keep contributing some of the sharpest and cleanest artwork in comic books. While colorist Vinicius Andrade and letterer Taylor Esposito keep raising the bar. Fans will also be excited for more covers from the existing cast of diverse styles. Including Fay Dalton, Robert Hack, Laura Braga, Dan Parent, and Cat Staggs.

John Carpenter's Tales of Science Fiction: Surviving Nuclear Attack #2

One of the few movies that I believe is completely underrated, but is definitely one of those rare unsung gems is Idiocracy. Creator Mike Judge created a dystopian movie that’s rooted in reality. The story revolves around a soldier who volunteers for a hibernation program and awakens to a world where stupidity is commonplace and greed rules everything. Many viewers saw it as pure fantasy. Many others, like me, saw the movie as a mirror to our reality.

The movie always made me wonder how many different ways our future can lead. What is considered a threat today may be considered nonsense tomorrow. Just like when the country was wary of the Cold War and the Arms Race. The movie made me wonder what it’d be like if he woke up to something grimmer and colder. In the second of John Carpenter’s Tales Of Science Fiction: Surviving Nuclear Attack, we find our protagonists trapped and in an unforgiving situation that they soon will regret.

Int he second issu, the five friends stand in the same room where the corpses of the Kutter family sits, they wonder first, will they get out alive and second what happened to them? Donnie, the most curious of the five friends, finds out that through a flyer on one of the bodies. It’s a clue which leads him to why they were there in the first place. Meanwhile, the rest of Jimmy’s friends look for medical supplies and rations. He starts to have visions of what seems to be the Kutter children as they play. His friends initially believe that he is in shock. The issue features the first fatality and a reveal as to what exactly is going on, both upping the tension of the series.

Overall, an engrossing chapter to this already captivating tale. The story by Joe Harris is layered, well developed, and knows how to make the reader jump at the most uneasy points. The art by Cat Staggs is more than a compliment to Harris’s story. It truly is a canvas of fine art. Altogether, a story you won’t be able to put down. It’ll put you on the edge of your seat wanting to know if our protagonists can survive.

Tales of Science Fiction: Surviving Nuclear Attack #1

When the show Doomsday Preppers first aired, I initially thought it was purely a novelty or worse case, a staged ploy like some reality shows are. My misconceptions and preconceived notions were forever altered once I actually sat down to watch one of the episodes. Immediately, I was both riveted and puzzled by these people. They’re not very different than I was, just that they live underground and thought to believe in certain truths. The most ubiquitous fact about the show is that everything they believe in is based on some fact.

Many American in the 1950s and beyond believed in this omnipresent threat of nuclear bombs and the world powers fighting to seize control of the arsenal. Soon most of the world either chose to forget or chose to believe in the safety of these weapons. But for those who readied themselves for the worst day ever, it was all too real. In Tales Of Science Fiction: Surviving Nuclear Attack #1, we meet one such family and the extremes they went to keep their home safe.

We meet Captain George Kutter and his family, in the middle of a nuclear bombing drill. The American government has chosen them to be legacy survivors. We cut to the present day, where a group of friends gets together for a hunting trip, somewhere in Pennsylvania wilderness. These friends thought this was a normal hunting trip. One of the guys triggers an alarm, becomes startled and falls over, which is when the group discovers a hidden bunker. By issue’s end, they are able to enter the shelter, but what they find is more like a catacomb of secrets, one where the answers may prove deadly.

Overall, a story shrouded in mystery, one where choices and their consequences may lead to fatal ends. The story by Joe Harris is dense, skilled, and well developed. The art by Cat Staggs and Janice Chiang is breathtaking. Altogether, a story that looks to leave the reader captivated and frightened. A job done very well.

Dynamite Embarks to Diamond Retailers Summit with Limited Edition Covers

Dynamite Entertainment is sending its Editorial and Sales team to the Diamond Retailer Summit and that special covers will be available to retailers.

Joseph Rybandt, Executive Editor and Patrick O’Connell, Sales Manager will be at the summit to present to and speak with retailers about all of Dynamite’s exciting recent and upcoming releases and initiatives. Including discussion of the upcoming Vampirella #1 written by Christopher Priest, the crossover with Archie Comics and an upcoming series by Gail Simone!

At the Dynamite booth, participating retailers will be able to receive four limited edition covers for Red Sonja & Vampirella Meet Betty & Veronica. It’s Spies vs. Spy in Charlie’s Angels/Bionic Woman this July

For the first time ever, the Angels meet the Bionic in the crazy 80’s in Charlie’s Angels/Bionic Woman, from Dynamite Entertainment. Bringing together Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Charlie’s Angels and Universal’sBionic Woman is a first in comics and a winning crossover event in print.

Charlie gives his Angels an assignment to steal back a patent for its mysterious inventor. The biggest hiccup on the mission is their toughest counterspy yet, literally – Jaime Sommers aka the Bionic Woman. Will the cyborg come out on top against a team of highly trained private investigators or will the tides turn toward a team-up against some greater threat?

Audiences sat at home glued to their TVs watching the thrilling adventures of these detectives, even on the same night for a period. This new series is set within the original series continuity for both shows and takes place after their finales, bringing everyone together in the 1980s. 

Cameron DeOrdio brings his honed writing abilities and love for both franchises to the table, while artist Soo Lee draws these women in her one-of-a-kind style. Colorist Addison Duke and letterer Tom Napolitano round out the team inside the book.

The Death of Superman Animated Movie Gets a Comic Tie-In

DC Comics has launched The Death of Superman: Part 1, a new Digital First series following the digital release of The Death of Superman animated film from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. The new series comes from famed Superman writer Louise “Weezie” Simonson, and kicking off art duties is superstar Wonder Woman ’77 artist, Cat Staggs, followed in subsequent chapters by Joel Ojeda, Laura Braga and more. Readers can download the first chapter now.

What is it like to be Superman—when the events of a day can be completed in a matter of minutes? This series begins as readers follow the hours that lead to the Man of Steel’s face-off with Doomsday—the alien that is destined to destroy him. The Death of Superman is the inaugural film in the DC Universe Movies series, produced by Warner Bros. Animation and DC Entertainment. The animated film was released digitally by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment on July 24, 2018, and will be released on Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD August 7, 2018.
