Dark Horse Comics released more details about their Free Comic Book Day Silver offering: Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures/Avatar: The Last Airbender, arriving May 6, 2023 at participating comic shops.
Get set for adventure with a new tale from the farthest reaches of a galaxy far, far away; and a new story from the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender!
In Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures, the galaxy-wide conflict between the Jedi Order and the dangerous marauders known as the Nihil intensifies, and a shuttle full of younglings gets caught in the crossfire. This lost tale set during the fall of Starlight is written by New York Times bestselling author Daniel José Older and is illustrated by Harvey Tolibao, who also provided the cover art for this issue. Colors are by Michelle Madsen and letters provided by Comicraft’s Tyler Smith and Jimmy Betancourt.
In Avatar: The Last Airbender, Aang and his friends come across a village decimated by the Fire Nation. One survivor—a young child named Luumi—refuses to open up to anyone except fellow Earth Kingdom native, Toph. This comic is written by Amy Chu, with art by Kelly and Nichole Matthews, and is lettered by Richard Starkings and Comicraft’s Jimmy Betancourt.
House of Slay, the fashion collective formed by prominent fashion world figures Prabal Gurung, Phillip Lim, Laura Kim, Tina Leung, and Ezra Williams, has kicked off a new season of their hit superhero webcomic on the Tapas and WEBTOON platforms. The series, created in partnership with XRM Media and EEP Universe, follows superpowered versions of the fashion icons as they combat the fear of “other” and build a community of love, hope, and solidarity.
Season 1 — complete and available online now — chronicled the novice heroes’ chance encounter with a magical artifact, their newfound powers rooted in ancient legend, and their first encounter with a power-hungry villain fueled by the world’s hate and fear. Season 2’s five short stories widen the scope with new heroes, new antagonists, and new shades of intolerance and bigotry for House of Slay to challenge. It kicks off with “Slay in LA” by writer Amy Chu and artist Fabian Lelay, in which a trip to Los Angeles reveals there’s much more magic in the world than what they experienced last season.
Four more stories on this globe-spanning, mythos-expanding adventure were created by writers Barbara Perez Marquez, Cherish Chen, Henry Barajas, and Deron Bennett, and artists Dominic Bustamante, Ashley Liu, Louie Chin, and Lynne Yoshii, with key art and character designs by Kevin Wada.
For the first time, Avengers: Electric Rain #1 is being published in English! The epic series has come to Marvel Unlimited in the exclusive Infinity Comics format. The 13-issue story takes place in Seoul and follows White Fox, the last of the mystical shapeshifting Kumiho, and leader of South Korea’s super-powered response team Tiger Division.
And for readers who want even more White Fox… Tiger Division #1, the team’s first-ever solo comic series, is available on Marvel Unlimited and on stands now! Fans can learn more about the team of South Korea’s fiercest defenders in a five-issue limited series written by Emily Kim.

Amy Chu is a comics and animation writer, currently working on the upcoming Borderlands mini-series and Carmilla: The First Vampire through the Dark Horse Berger Books imprint. Her most recent work is the Netflix anime series DOTA: Dragon’s Blood, Rick & Morty, and Archie. For DC and Marvel, she has written popular characters such as Wonder Woman, Poison Ivy, Deadpool, Ant-Man, and Iron Man. She is also known for her run on Red Sonja, and is the first woman to write the KISS and Green Hornet series. For children, she has written the graphic novels Sea Sirens and Sky Island (Penguin Random House) and Ana & the Cosmic Race (Papercutz). Amy is a member of the faculty at the Kubert School and the School of Visual Arts and a board member of the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. She holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a double bachelor’s degree in Architectural Design from MIT and East Asian Studies from Wellesley College. Garth Ennis broke into the American Comic scene in 1991, taking over the writing reins on Hellblazer. After a successful four-year run, Ennis moved on to create Preacher, a 66-issue epic that ran from 1995 -2000. In addition to these two ground-breaking series, he also had lengthy runs on DC’s The Demon and Hitman. Ennis is also the mastermind behind The Boys, a 72-issue comic story which began at DC’s Wildstorm imprint before moving to Dynamite Entertainment with issue #7 and now adapted as a smash hit on Amazon Prime Video.
Phillip Kennedy Johnson broke into comics in 2015 with the BOOM! Studios miniseries Last Sons of America and Warlords of Appalachia. These projects led him to DC Comics and Marvel, where he would write such characters/titles as Aquaman, Captain America, Batman, Marvel Zombies: Resurrection, Extreme Carnage, and his creator-owned epic fantasy series, DC Black Label’s The Last God. He took over the Superman and Action Comics titles in 2020, and currently writes the ongoing Alien series at Marvel Comics. He has also been published with Archaia, IDW, Aftershock, Dynamite, and Scout Comics.
Howard Mackie was dragged kicking and screaming into writing his first comic book (Iron Man #211) a few years ago, and has been working in comic book publishing ever since. Chronicling the adventures of Ghost Rider, Spider-Man, The X-Men, X-Factor, Gambit, Wolverine, Batman, and countless other characters for Marvel, DC, and Archie Comics. His most recent work for Marvel was Ghost Rider: Return of Vengeance. Pat Shand is best known as the writer/co-creator of Destiny NY, Snap Flash Hustle, Breathless, Little Girl, Prison Witch, Gangster Ass Barista, and Afterglow. He has worked as a comics writer since 2011, creating stories for Black Mask Studios, Devil’s Due, Joe Books, IDW Publishing, BOOM! Studios, Avatar Press, and many more. In addition to his work in the comics industry, he is an accomplished playwright, screenwriter, and novelist, and has written five original Marvel novels. He runs Space Between Entertainment in New York, where he lives with his wife Amy and their army of cats.
Paul D. Storrie has written comics for numerous publishers, including the recently collected Harley Quinn & the Gotham Girls for DC, Star Trek Alien Spotlight: Andorians for IDW, and The Viking Queen at Source Point Press, His most recent work can be found in the Eisner-nominated one-shot John Carpenter Presents Storm Kids: Stanley’s Ghost.
