Nope makes it three for three for Jordan Peele as the movie debuted in first place with an impressive $44 million. His first film, Get Out, debuted with $33.4 million and US opened with $71.1 million. With positive reviews, the film should have pretty solid legs and not suffer from the massive second week drop horror films tend to experience.

Thor: Love and Thunder dropped to second in its third week with an estimated $22.1 million to bring its domestic total to $276.2 million. Internationally, the film has grossed around $322 million for a worldwide total of $598.2 million.

Minions: The Rise of Gru slipped one spot to come in third with an estimated $17.7 million. Domestically, the film has grossed $297.9 million. Internationally, the film has grossed around $72.2 million to lift that to $342.4 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $640.3 million.

In fourth place was Where the Crawdads Sing with an estimated $10.3 million to bring the domestic total to $38.3 million. Internationally, the film has grossed $4,100,000 for a worldwide total of $42.4 million.

Rounding down the top five was Top Gun: Maverick which grossed a little over $10 million. The film has grossed $635.6 million domestically moving into 9th place for the all-time gross. Internationally, the film added about $27.7 million to its total to bring that to $647.1 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $1.283 billion. Worldwide, the film is in 17th place for all-time gross.

In comic film news…

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness earned $22,000 and bringing its domestic total to $411.3 million. Internationally, the film grossed about $300,000 over the week to bring that to $543.1 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed a little over $954.4 million. It looks like the film will fall short of the $1 billion mark.

The week’s overall box office success…

Initial numbers has 47 films earning $126,220,718 from 33,226 theaters. That’s a small dip from last weekend’s $132,781,558 from 31,592 theaters and 52 films. It’s another strong weekend for 2022. The average earning was $3,798.85 this past weekend, again, a decrease from last weekend’s $4,203.01.
