Silver Sprocket’s Free Comic Book Day Release is too Risqué for Coca-Cola

Silver Sprocket is participating in Free Comic Book Day  for the first time this Saturday, August 14th! Free Comic Book Day is the yearly event when big-time comic book publishers get special issues of their hot titles distributed for free at comic shops across the country.

You can pick up a free copy of Fungirl: Tales of a Grown Up Nothing by Elizabeth Pich at your local comic book shop this Saturday.

And Silver Sprocket has already made waves in its first year with an issue “too spicy” for the national sponsor Coca-Cola. They publisher had to stop the presses and remove Coca-Cola’s advertisement as the comic was going to print. It might have been the nudity. It might have been the part where Fungirl spears a pancake with a strap-on. Who knows…

Now you can read the most forbidden comic this FCBD! Thirty-two pages of hectic hijinks with the titular Fungirl!

If you don’t yet know Fungirl:

Fungirl is a hapless (hopeless) hot mess of a woman crashing through life, leaving chaos in her wake. Although her oblivious antics infuriate her roommate-slash-ex-girlfriend, terrify the teenage skaters she tries to impress, and threaten her every opportunity for employment, Fungirl remains charming, transgressive, and hilarious.

Elizabeth Pich’s cartoonish art is simple and quirky, with clean lines and bold colors. The art transforms potentially graphic scenes of sex and violence into adorably cute, almost sweet, vignettes. Pich renders Fungirl’s particular messiness deliciously palatable, like an inappropriate wedding cake.

If you like the Free Comic Book Day issue, there’s more where that came from!

Silver Sprocket is releasing a hardcover, deluxe edition of the fully collected Fungirl comics on October 13th. Over 250 pages of full-color comics, and Fungirl may actually learn a lesson by the end of the book. Be sure to preorder with your local shop!
