In its second weekend, Frozen II held on to the box office with a commanding estimated $85.3 million. That brings the film’s domestic total to $287.6 million. The weekend earnings delivered the largest three and five-day grosses over Thanksgiving. After ten days the film trails just Incredibles 2 when it comes to animated films and their earnings.

Internationally, the film added $163.8 million over three days bringing the international total to $451 million. Globally, the film has earned $738.6 million after 12 days. It has yet to open in South Africa, Uruguay, and Paraguay which happens next weekend and then Brazil remains which happens on January 2. There’s little doubt the film will be the next film to cross $1 billion for this year’s releases.

In second place was Knives Out which was ahead of expectations. The film earned $41.7 million over the five days and $27 million over the weekend. The film received a good word of mouth and got an “A-” from CinemaScore. Online ratings remain high. The opening weekend audience was 51% male and 68% of the crowd was aged 25 or older.

Internationally, the film added $28.3 million for a worldwide opening of $70 million. It opens in 14 more markets this coming weekend.

In third place was Ford v Ferrari which dropped just 17%. The film’s earnings was an estimated $13.2 million for three days and $19 million for five days. Domestically the film has earned $81 million. Internationally, the film added $10.2 million to its total to bring that number to $62.3 million and a worldwide total o $143 million. It opens in South Korea, Thailand, Panama, and Chile next weekend and then in Japan on January 10.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood came in fourth dropping just 11% in its second weekend. It earned an estimated $11.8 million for three days and $17.3 million for five days. Domestically, the film has earned $34.3 million.

Rounding out the top five was Queen & Slim which earned an estimated $11.7 million over three days and $15.8 million over five days. The film received an “A-” CinemaScore and was 51% female with 61% of the audience being aged 25 or older.

When it comes to comic-based films…

Joker improved spots coming in at #9 from last week’s #10 after nine weeks. The film added an estimated $2 million over the weekend to bring its domestic total to $330.6 million.
