Dark Ark returns with a new series, Dark Ark: After the Flood. In Dark Ark, two arks were built to survive the Biblical flood. One was Noah’s and one was a dark ark filled with mythical creatures and things that go bump in the night.

Dark Ark: After the Flood #1 sees the Dark Ark now on land and the building of a new society. Khalee is the new sorceress in charge and the issue bounces between her origin and the now as she and the rest of the survivors attempt to figure things out.

Writer Cullen Bunn continues to mix horror and the Bible for a story that’s intriguing and engaging. Like the previous volume, this new one has more than enough to keep readers coming back. There’s something to its mix of horror, religion, and even some humor.

The negative is the issue isn’t quite as new reader friendly as the previous volume and it helps to have read the previous series. But, you can enjoy it by just focusing on the now and not what has lead up to it.

Juan Doe‘s art continues to amaze. The style is fantastic and the design of the characters and creatures is top-notch. The colors, everything comes together for a visual treat. Doe is an artist, and writer, to keep your eye on.

Dark Ark: After the Flood #1 is a welcome return to the world and its twist on the Bible. A solid beginning for long-time readers and for those that are new, it’s not too late to go back and see what you’ve missed.
