Recap: DC’s Legends of Tomorrow S4E10 – The Getaway

In DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, “The Getaway,” the team is on the hunt for a magical being who makes it so that Richard Nixon cannot tell a lie. His overshare filled honesty screws up the timeline and sends the on the outs with the Time Bureau Legends into another mission. Hank is on a mission to bring the Legends down while Nate and Zari try and find out what the big boss is really up to, so they can bring him down with Gary getting to play secret agent man. Sara,  Ray, and Charlie plan to kidnap Nixon after getting a warning from Nate and Zari that the Bureau is hot on their trails. Constantine and Rory jump ship and bring a  heartbroken Mona with them to warn the others and avoid her getting caught because of her newly minted fugitive status.

During their escape from Walter Reed Medical, they manage to forget Charlie who is stuck using her still on the fritz shapeshifting powers to pretend to be Nixon. Constantine manages to remove the magical truth bug from Nixon and Mona gets stuck on Truth Roach duties while the team tries to figure out their next move. Gary is going full conspiracy theory crazy so, he goes to Nora for help in cracking the case and figuring out why magical creatures are being taken from their cells in the middle of the night.  Unfortunately, the bug breaks free just as the team is stopped by the police on suspicion of drug use, forcing Ray to tell the truth, which makes him sound high and in camptastic Legend’s fashion, hijinks ensue.

The Bureau overhears the troopers call, repeating what Ray said and show up in full force, led by Hank , to catch the Legends and bring them in. Zari figures out a way to slip a message to the team using radio waves to keep them off of the Bureau’s radar while Gary and Nora try and hack into Hanks computer. Nate tries to pump his dad for information under the guise of a father-son chat so he could feed the info to Gary and Nora via the coms to help them crack his password.  Nora and Gary almost get caught by Constantine’s ex-beau and realizing there is a disturbance in the force warns Gary to watch out, he then calls Hank to warn him that someone was in his office and he figures out that the father-son bonding might have been a rouse and Nate might still be team Legends.

The bug gets out in the back of the RV and everyone lets their truth out in an amazing way that only the amazing Legends could. It is real, raw, hurtful and hilarious all at the same time! The truth talk gets a little too deep causing Sara to let Mona know how she really feels underneath it all about losing Sarah, which makes her take off on a bicycle in the most adorably hurt way possible.  After Constantine manages to get the bug out of Sara, the team takes off to find Mona because, they don’t leave team members behind and, no matter what the circumstances, Mona is now a Legend.

Nate gets some false intel from her dad and tries to thwart his capture plans but it doesn’t go as expected. After running away Mona finds herself in a diner that’s crawling with agents getting her into exactly the kind of trouble that Sara was afraid of. Sara and Constantine have a real heart to heart giving her the outlet she needed to get back on track and get her head in the game, while not neglecting her super valid feelings. Meanwhile, in Bureauland, Hank uses Nate’s mole status to lead the legends into a trap and back at the bar, Mona overhears the agents saying they’re on their way to capture the Legends. Using her rage at the killing of her neanderthal love and , in some small part the fear that her new friends might be in danger she, Kaupe outs and takes down all of the agents. Ray and Mick end up in the middle of a blockade and end up getting arrested with Nate still unaware that his dad is on to him.

While Sara and Constantine try to talk a raging Mona down the Truth Roach gets free gets into Nixon and Nate causing him to have a real honest talk with his dad, he gives his dad an ultimatum which results in the Legends getting to go free because at the end of the day, he loves his son more than his job. A bug-free Sara finishes the conversation she had with Constantine,  to the pain-filled Mona and, the freeing of her fears, anxieties and pain in a hella honest monologue helps Mona to return to normal, tears streaming and ready to hug it out.

With the Legends free to go, Zari shows up to bring them back on board and they finally remember that they forgot Charlie. Zari also fills Nate in on what his dad has been up to with the magical creatures and it’s not good, causing a bit of a dent in their relationship. We get some insight into what’s actually going on when we see Hank try to call his deal with an actual devil off.  Nora feels the twinge of evil and breaks free from her cell to save him but, she’s a little too late for anything but,  time to be blamed for it.

Legends is nothing if not consistent and “The Getaway” is just as cleverly written, action-packed, and heart string tugging as it always is. The writers have discovered a formula that works hella good and they haven’t tried to change it, which is a good thing. This issue was all about family, by blood or by choice, dealing with your emotions, coming to terms with being OK with not being OK and, leaning on the people in your life. It was solid, real and beautiful. If only because I’m type salty that Ava and Sara haven’t made up.

I give this episode a solid 9.0
