There’s something about the B movies of the 1980s. They felt like remnants of the 1970s but a slightly updated flavor. Some of the best movies took what was a ridiculous plot but gave it tons of action and plenty of eye candy, enough to make the whole fare entertaining. Eventually, these movies became big studio fodder and became part of the mainstream thanks to movie makers who were also fans of this niche genre. Movies like Rambo, which would have been a B movie, was now a major motion picture and added to the star power that is Sylvester Stallone.

It wasn’t so much how the movies looked or the actors but the attitude that made the movies so great. One of the few movies that Pamela Anderson was in a leading role, Barb Wire, though not made in 80s still had all the panache and style those films had. The fun was in getting lost in the action and cringing at how just how bad the villains were. In the awesome Tricks of the Trade, the reader finds our hero trying to stop a gang from getting their hands on a dangerous weapon. It takes inspiration from those modern “classic” films.

We find Lana, our super spy, trying to stop a would-be arms dealer from getting his hands on a very dangerous weapons prototype, one that can-do serious damage. This bring Lana to infiltrate his inner circle by using the tools at her disposal, while her partner tries to find the weapon.

Overall, Tricks of the Trade mixes the tongue in cheek sexiness of the Bond films and gives it a twist by having a female protagonist. The story by Sean Harrington is funny, exciting, and well written. The art by Harrington is gorgeous. Altogether, if you love those B movies and want to laugh while you are it, this series is where it’s at.
