Rainbow Rowell to Write Runaways for Marvel with Kris Anka on Art

As has been widely speculated Marvel has announced a new Runaways series with Rainbow Rowell writing and Kris Anka on art. Rowell had been approached by Marvel to them a few years ago and this was the series the writer inquired about.

Created by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona Runaways debuted in 2003 and featured five teenagers, an 11 year old, and a telepathic dinosaur who teamed up after they discover their parents are part of a criminal organization called The Pride. Since that original series, there’s been numerous other volumes and the characters have moved on elsewhere.

That moving on will be the focus of the first volume as Rowell will focus on bringing the band back together. Rowell has written Eleanor & Park, Carry On, and Fangirl and has two upcoming graphic novels with Faith Erin Hicks. Rowell is the latest prose author, which includes Ta-Nehisi Coats, RL Stine and Roxane Gay, recruited by Marvel to writer their comics.

The characters are currently being adapted into a live action series which will debut on Hulu.
