WizKids Announces Set Rotation for Dice Masters and Bans Half-Elf Bard

Speculation has run rampant that eventually, WizKids would begin to rotate sets for their popular Dice Masters game. The game is a cross between a collectible card game and deck-building where players build teams of cards and dice based on properties from DC Comics, Marvel, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Dungeons & Dragons.

The company has announced that beginning June 1, 2017 there will be two types of events, “Modern Age” and “Golden Age.”

“Golden Age” will feature the ability to use every set minus the currently banned cards.

“Modern Age” rotates out some sets and promos. Sets no longer able to be used include

  • Marvel Dice Masters: Avengers vs. X-Men
  • Marvel Dice Masters: The Uncanny X-Men
  • Yu-Gi-Oh! Dice Masters Series 1
  • D&D Dice Masters: Battle for Faerûn
  • DC Comics Dice Masters: Justice League
  • Marvel Dice Masters: Age of Ultron

For a full set of what’s still legal check out the Wizkids announcement. In addition to the rotated out sets, WizKids has also banned Half-Elf Bard: Master Lords’ Alliance from use in “Modern Age” games.

The concept of set rotation is a common one, and this was expected. What will be interesting is to see how this impacts the price of cards and what changes to the meta we’ll be seeing in the latter half of the year.
