Can Faith overcome her greatest fear…or will these ghosts soon make her one of their own?

Faith #7 starts a story that’s quite unlike anything we’ve seen before in either the four issue miniseries or the six issues of the ongoing we’ve had so far. Faith Herbert has always been a positive, upbeat character who seems to effortlessly move from one horrific tragedy to another, up until this issue. Jody Houser has Faith literally facing the ghosts of her past, and to say it has the high-flying hero off balance would be a little bit of an understatement.

We get to see some real world repercussions from Faith’s struggles as she tries to rationalize the visions and nightmares she’s having while at work. It’s an effective way of allowing the reader to empathize with the character because who hasn’t had to struggle through something at work?

Although the fantastic Marguerite Sauvage continues to draw the fantasy sequences, this issue also sees a new-to-the-series artist, Joe Eisma, joining the crew. His art style complements Sauvage’s almost too well – with the nature of the story it can take a moment or so to figure out whether you’re reading a fantasy sequence or an in the moment piece of the story. Ultimately, though, that’s a fairly minor issue that probably has as much to do with  the watermarked review copy I have as much as it does  the combined styles of the two artists – I’ll be picking up a physical copy Wednesday so I’ll try and remember to update the review then if I feel any differently.

Overall, I’m intrigued by the direction this story is taking, and I’m looking forward to the next issue.
