Boo! Madea Repeats at Number One. Inferno is More Like a Campfire in Its Debut.

boo_a_madea_halloweenTyler Perry‘s Boo! A Madea Halloween was the top movie at the domestic box office earning an estimated $16.68 million in its second week out. That’s two weeks in a row the film has led the weekend box office and has earned $52 million after two weeks with a budget of $20 million. The film dropped a bit more than expected in its second week but considering the positive reviews from audiences, it’s no surprise it did well.

But, that film’s being the top film for the weekend was also due to Inferno falling short of expectations. The film earned just $15 million. That’s about $10 million shy of predictions and is a miss for Sony and Tom Hanks. The third film in the series was short of Angels & Demons $46.2 million opening seven years ago and The Da Vinci Code‘s $77 million ten years ago. Inferno has had some success overseas though having earned $132.7 million already to bringing its worldwide total to $147.7 million

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back dropped to third from second in its second week. The film added $9.55 million to its total bringing it to $39.7 million domestically and so far $93.9 million worldwide.

In comic movie news, Doctor Strange opened in foreign markets earning $86 million so far. That debut was in 33 territories which is about 45% of the international marketplace. The film opened ahead of Ant-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain America: Winter Solider, and Thor: The Dark World. The film will open domestically this coming weekend in about 3,800 theaters as well as Russia, Brazil, China, Colombia, and a few other foreign markets.
