TV Review: The Flash S2E21 The Runaway Dinosaur
With Barry gone, the team must figure out a way to handle the return of Girder, an old enemy. Realizing Girder is retracing his steps from his last attack, Iris volunteers to act as bait to trap him in S.T.A.R. Labs.
The Flash deals with Barry lost while team Flash has to deal with Girder. The episode is a bit trippy in a way with Barry sucked into the Speed Force and has to figure out what he wants to do and if he wants to accept his role as the Flash. It’s an interesting concept and honestly something that I thought would happen in a later season (the stuck in the Speed Force part).
The episode also dances around Wally and Jesse being hit by the lightning and if they’re impacted at all.
Yes, there’s a villain, but his appearance really is more of a clock for the team to need to get Barry back, setting a time frame more than anything else. There is some nice jokes including a reference to The Walking Dead and joke about iZombie.
But really, the episode is all about Barry. Does he want to be the Flash? Has he accepted the death of his mother? That’s the type of things he’s presented with while he’s “away.” It’s an interesting way for the character to have to deal with the death of his mother, especially since we as an audience haven’t really seen that, but things feel a bit shallow and empty in some ways.
What is interesting is the last few minutes which has Zoom addressing a room of villains that feels like a who’s who for comic geeks. I’m sure many hours will be spent going over what we’re show.
With two episode left, this should be interesting!
