TV Review: The Flash S2E18 Versus Zoom
Equipped with the tachyon device, Barry believes he is fast enough to stop Zoom and wants to open the breaches to catch him. Harry strongly advises against the plan.
The Flash begins to wrap up its second season with just five more episodes to go as the action against Zoom increases and Barry thinks he can finally take him on. The question is, is his plan any good?
What I think is interesting about the episode is that it does a real good job of setting not just the upcoming battle between Zoom and the Flash, but also giving us a solid origin about Zoom and why he’s a bit messed up. Some pieces of the puzzles come a bit too easily, but otherwise it’s really satisfying.
It’s the small details of the episode, like Zoom’s origin that I think are the most solid. We even get a bit of a tie-in with the Flash’s trip to Supergirl’s Earth too. The episode also explains some things like the “death” of Jay Garrick, which doesn’t make a ton of sense, but we’ll go with it.
Overall, the episode is a solid one putting all of the pieces of the puzzle together in a pretty explanatory way. It doesn’t all make sense, and feels somewhat of a convoluted plan, but it’s still a solid episode that makes Zoom even creepier in many ways. The tension, especially for the last 10 minutes is fantastic, giving us one of the more intense endings of an episode. And we still have 5 episodes to go!
There’s been some hit and miss episodes this season, but this one is really solid with a story that feels very “comic book.” And it leaves The Flash in a spot we’ve seen in comics as well. Though it’s a bit darker, the episode is still fun in a lot of ways. Can’t wait to see where the season goes from here!
