Deadpool Continues to Dominate the Box Office
Deadpool led the box office for the third weekend in a row bringing in an estimated $31.5 million. It easily trounced three (really five, but three had a chance) new films this weekend. Deadpool has now earned $285.6 million at the domestic box office and $324.2 million in foreign markets to bring its total to $609.8 million.
When it comes to “X” films it is the top domestic earner, the third when adjusting for ticket price inflation, and second when it comes to unadjusted worldwide grosses.
The film currently sites at 13th for domestic gross of comic book adaptations, about $6 million behind Man of Steal and around $30 million behind Iron Man 2 and Iron Man. The film has about three more weeks on its own before Batman v Superman is released and competes for the “comic” film audience. By the time it’s done domestically, Deadpool should easily the top ten domestic grosses for comic adaptations.
In new films, Gods of Egypt bombed earning only $14 million to come in second. Eddie the Eagle was fifth and earned $6.3 million, and Triple 9 earned $6.1 million to be in sixth.
We’ll be awaiting to see how the Oscars shake up the box office next week along with some new releases.
