TV Review: DC’s Legends of Tomorrow S1E5 Fail-Safe

Legends of Tomorrow PosterIn DC’s Legends of Tomorrow fifth episode after some of the Legends are captured and thrown into a Russian gulag during the Height of the Cold war of 1986, Snart leads the Team in an elaborate escape plan to free their comrade’s. However, Rip gives Sara a secret side mission that could prove not only to be a liability, but fatal to the Team.

I said after last week’s episode, I think the series finally found its footing and had shown a lot of improvement. This fifth episode continues that as the team finally feels like its gotten its act together and we start to see how their actions have ripple effects in the future.

The whole episode is basically a jail break and mostly focused on getting Stein out of the prison before he creates a Soviet Firestorm.

Again, like the previous episode, the characters are starting to actually work together and bond, and again each are given their moments to start to really stand out. This episode is mostly around Sara and the mission she’s given. It really dives into her history as a killer, a smart thing to tap.

Everyone is given their time and focus, something I felt was generally lacking in the first three episodes. That, plus the action, are a good mix that create an enjoyable hour. I said in the last review I felt the series was still trying to find its footing, and it looks like it might be finally doing that.

The other interesting focus is getting Rip more into a leadership role and getting him to understand he has all of these tools at his disposal and he doesn’t use them enough. That’s a role he hasn’t engaged in, which is a bit strange since he did put the team together.

The episode ends with a really kick-ass finale which actually has me excited to see what comes next.

Overall Rating: 7.6
