#ComicTalk Roundup: Sex, Violence and Other Stuff
Q3: Do mature comics have a harder time marketing, and if so why?
@JamieMeWrites Q3: attitudes change and constantly challenge what is acceptable. I think it's a tough market to appeal to without offending.
— Andi Ewington (@AndiEwington) February 7, 2016
@JamieMeWrites There's filters on sites so ppl can't see them as much, which hurts em. With everything it's just finding audience #comictalk

@JamieMeWrites You can still market it without showing the hardcore stuff. I don't think mature's a big seller these days tho. #comictalk

@PlanetDann @JamieMeWrites Depends. Smut Peddler's doing exceedingly well right now on kickstarter. #comictalk

@JamieMeWrites That's a question I'm interested in. How to label my new comic? What warnings? I guess I'll find out! #comictalk
— Colin W (@TheChairmaker) February 7, 2016
@TheChairmaker @JamieMeWrites I just write "For mature audiences" on the back above the barcode. So far, clear sailing.
— David and Liz Lillie (@Dreamkeepers) February 7, 2016
@Dreamkeepers sounds a sensible strategy. I think I'll also make it clear it has some violence and maybe language rather than sex #comictalk

@JamieMeWrites Slightly tougher time as the general perception of comics is that they're only "for kids" or a "general audience."#ComicTalk
— B. Alex Thompson (@ApproBAT) February 7, 2016
@JamieMeWrites Q3: Yes. Some see comics as only for kids; mature comics are accused of being marketed to them. #ComicTalk

@JamieMeWrites Q3 our comic is a satire but because it's a pervy satire it's nearly impossible to promote it #ComicTalk

@JamieMeWrites Q3 #comictalk comics w/ violence/swears no but ones w/ sex & nudes yes. Hard 2 really be accessible when its borderline porn
— R:ILPERSONA™ (@RILPERSONA) February 7, 2016
@JamieMeWrites Not really people will buy what they want to see. For example a lot of mainstream manga have some cute girl on the cover.
— slomosteveo (@slomosteveo) February 7, 2016
@JamieMeWrites Smut Peddler cited they had a hard time getting a publisher to consider porn. Still a stigma even tho the audience is there
— SkellyScribbles (@SkellyScribbles) February 7, 2016
@JamieMeWrites Yes, if they're anything but hq/fetish porn. Even then, gl finding forums that'll front feature ultra-rape-96. #ComicTalk
— Blood Catalysts (@BloodCatalysts) February 7, 2016
@JamieMeWrites Part of the issue is sites rarely classify beyond "fantasy/sci-fi/manga/etc." so some comics have to list mature #ComicTalk
— Blood Catalysts (@BloodCatalysts) February 7, 2016
@JamieMeWrites I can't imagine so. Every genre or style has to have their own issues right? There's a crowd for everyone, no? #ComicTalk
