TV Review: The Flash S2E1 The Man Who Saved Central City

The Flash Season 2Still feeling responsible for Eddie’s death, Barry pushes his friends away and tries to protect the city on his own; Cisco assists Joe with the Meta Task Force.

It’s been a summer since we last saw the scarlet speedster whipping across our screens, and some time has passed since the ending of the first season finale of The Flash.

The second season doesn’t quite have the same, go-lucky vibe as the first, but that’s not a bad thing as we get to see Barry deal with what it really means to be a hero, and that things don’t always go your way.

There’s some heartbreak in the episode which bridges a nice gap from last season, and builds up the big bad for this season…. Zoom!

The episode is interesting in that it’s actually rather depressing compared to the last. Barry really is in his head, shunning his friends and team, and trying to make up for the damage he caused to stop the black hole that formed over the city in the episode finale.

The episode is a nice return, not a great return, but it’s great to see the Flash back on the small screen. The show has a tone and attitude unlike any other “comic” show on television. For all the flash, the excitement, the speed, the show has a lot of heart. It reflects on what it means to be a hero and can pack an emotional punch. Easily the best superhero show on television (right now), and this episode shows why.
