Review: Red Sonja / Conan #1
Red Sonja and Conan are reunited as captains of mercenary companies who team to fight the forces of an evil sorcerer. Little do they realize that a shadow of the past has returned, something of dire peril from their previous adventures together. It’s the Cimmerian and Sonja reunited for more bloody swordplay!
The series brings together properties from both Dynamite Entertainment and Dark Horse Comics.
Like most covers Alex Ross draws, this one is no exception to it being a work of art. Combining two characters known for being ferocious, violent, and skilled fighters. However they both exist in the same world, just in different areas geographically. Of course what would that barbaric world be with out wizards who lusts for power, kings and sell-sword companies.
Written by Victor Gischler with art by Roberto Castro, does the story excel in the setting?
That it does. To think it all starts with opening a chest left behind by a dead king and a prince eager to open it. Several years have passed, and now the kingdom of Kush is on the brink of war with a meager army. The king is gathering companies of sell-swords to strengthen their army. Struggling for commanders, Conan and Red Sonja do what they do best. Fight.
