Catch us at SDCC on The Future of Fan Culture Panel
Graphic Policy is heading to San Diego Comic-Con which kicks off its Preview Night July 8 and runs through July 12. We’ll have a dedicated page where you can catch all the news and updates from the show, but that’ll be coming later this week.
For now, I wanted to announce that I’ll be on my first panel ever at the convention!
Sunday, July 12 from 3:30 to 4:30 I’ll be discussing “The Future of Fan Culture.”
As comics have taken over the mainstream, fandom has become larger, more diverse, and more like the rest of popular culture, for better or worse. Our conventions are huge, our economic clout drives the entertainment industry, and our disputes have become entangled with culture-war politics. What’s next? Rob Salkowitz (Comic-Con and the Business of Pop Culture), Brett Schenker (Graphic Policy) and Heidi MacDonald (The Beat) use hard data to explore the changing demographics of fandom in its social, economic, and political dimensions. The Washington Post’s Michael Cavna (Comic Riffs) moderates.
If you’re going to the convention, I hope you can join us at the panel and it’d be great to meet the folks who help make this site possible.
