Avengers Smash More Records

The Avengers dominated the box office again this past weekend with an estimated $103.2 million.  That’s the first time a movie has taken in $100 million in two consecutive weekends.  It only dropped 50% from the previous weekend.  It’s taken just nine days for the movie to pass the $300 million mark, a record.  The movie also earned $95.4M internationally.  Estimates have the movie passing the $1 billion mark yesterday, the 12th movie to have ever done so.  It took 19 days for the movie to reach that mark, the record was 17 days.  The film has now earned an estimated $373.2 million at the domestic box office and $628.9 million internationally.

The movie is in 11th place for the most ever earned globally for a movie (and obviously will be moving higher over the next weeks) and is the highest earning “comic book” movie ever.

If the movie continues to drop just 50% over the next few weeks that’s another $100 million and can easily push the movie into the top five grossing ever (if not higher).  Congrats to Marvel for this one.
