Lead Actress Departs Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark
Natalie Mendoza, who suffered a concussion during the first preview performance, will be leaving the Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. Rumors are circulating an exit agreement is being worked on between the actress, her representatives and representatives of the musical.
Mendoza plays Arachne and her last performance was December 20. She’s on vocal rest prescribed by her doctors. It is also reported she’s shaken by the injury of her friend and fellow actor Christopher Tierney.
Arachne is a new character created for the performance and much of the second act revolves around the character. The character sings the title song and on five other songs.
This was Mendoza’s Broadway debut. She was best known for a role in the movie The Descent.
The musical grossed $944,138 for its four shows and played to 100 percent capacity for the week of December 26. That figure doesn’t include any refunds for canceled performances.
