With the new opening date of February 7, 2011 (anyone know the over/under on this?) the Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark will have had a total of 10 weeks for preview performances.  The delay is intended to provide time for the creators to stage a new final number, make further rewrites to the dialogue and consider adding and cutting scenes and perhaps inserting new music from Bono and the Edge.

With the extension, the musical looks to have 72 preview performances, one more than the previous record holder.  The record was held by Nick & Nora which had 71 previews.  It opened to atrocious reviews and closed one week later.

In regards to the injury that occurred on Monday, OSHA, Actors Equity and the New York State Department of Labor met with members of the musical to discuss further safety measures and those measures would be enacted immediately.  Actors’ Equity later released a statement saying the injury was caused by human error.
