Superman’s Trunks Don’t Sell

Superman III was not a good movie, even with the comedic power of Richard Pryor, and it probably didn’t help the pair of trunks up for auction by Christie’s in London that was the movie this particular pair was from.

Along with a full Darth Vader costume, both items failed to sell at a recent auction.  The Vader costume from Empire Strikes Back got up to $235,000, but didn’t reach the $250,000 minimum.  The pair of trunks worn by Christopher Reeve also failed to sell.

However there were some hot items at the recent auction.  From a New York Times article:

The pistol held by Mr. Connery in the 1963 film, “From Russia With Love,” which was sold to an unidentified telephone bidder, was among the items having much better luck. They included a dinosaur model from the 1933 “King Kong” film that went for about $39,000 and a metal box containing the glowing red eye of the computer HAL from the 1968 science fiction classic, “2001:A Space Odyssey,” which sold for about $27,000.
