Weekly Review
A thick stack of books this week to cover.
Monthly Comics
Dazzler – After Necrosha, Dazzler must still deal with her half-sister Lois. There’s a lot of family issues here. While this isn’t a must read, it’s actually better than the event it spun from. Most of the one shot is filled with action scenes, but when it slows down and focuses on family issues it really finds it’s heart.
Story: 7.5 Art: 7.5 Overall: 7.5
Doomwar #4 – T’Challa must decide how he’ll take on Doom as Doom continues his game of chess. What exactly has he been working on, and what can we expect as the next few steps. This limited series hasn’t gotten much love on the internet, but I’ve definitely enjoyed it so far. There’s a nice mix of politics and action.
Story: 8.5 Art: 8.25 Overall: 8.5
Fantastic Four #579 – I can usually say Jonathan Hickman has brought the fantastic to Marvel’s first family, but something feels clearly off in this issue. In a clear shot at real world visionaries like Steve Jobs, the issue is about Reed and his visions for the future and humanity. It’s all a set up for something, but this feels like an unneeded chapter as it’s all been covered before. Definitely a misstep in what is normal a top notch series.

Green Hornet #4 – Kevin Smith’s movie script turned comic book continues to rock. Britt must deal with the death of his father and his father’s alter ego and Kato must seek revenge for the death of his friend. To say this series is good is an injustice to it, because it’s beyond fantastic and one you should be reading.

Green Lantern #54 – An interesting direction post Blackest Night. We’ll see where it goes but I’m intrigued.
Story: 8.5 Art: 8.5 Overall: 8.5
Green Lantern Corps. #48– Clearly a set up for Emerald Warriors. A guardian makes a decision about his role in the Corps. Also a nice mystery is set up.
Story: 8.25 Art: 8.5 Overall: 8.25
Incorruptible #6 – Mark Waid is a genius need I say more?
Story: 8.5 Art: 7.75 Overall: 8.25
Secret Avengers #1 – A very strong start to a very intriguing new series. Black ops headed up by Steve Rogers.
Story: 8.75 Art: 8.75 Overall: 8.75
Secret Warriors #16 – Overall kind of weak in that it covered so much so quickly. They might of said Moe was the key to the Leviathan vs. Hydra battle.
Story: 7.5 Art: 8.5 Overall: 7.75
Superman: War of the Supermen #4 – The four issue limited series comes to an end as Superman battles Zod. There’s some cheesy dialogue and parts and at times the art doesn’t match what’s described (the White House was not destroyed, though it was stated it was). Overall it feels like a weak ending for what was a great start. Also, the last few pages of Lois’s article about the events paints it more as a tale about immigration, which is a great theme that should of been played up more in the first three issues.
Story: 7.75 Art: 7.75 Overall: 7.75
The Thanos Imperative – The next Marvel galactic epic is about to begin as the cancerverse begins to seep through the fault into the real world as the avatar of death awakens again. You won’t believe who’s in charge of the cancerverse. This is such a fantastic beginning to the next epic.
Story: 9 Art: 8.75 Overall: 9
Thor #610 – It’s Thor vs. Ragnarok in an issue who’s point is to move things forward post Siege.
Story: 7.75 Art: 8.5 Overall: 8.25
Thunderbolts #144 – Awesome, just awesome.
Story: 9 Art: 9 Overall: 9
Unknown Soldier #20 – Disappointed that this series is ending. More of you should be reading this series.
Story: 8.75 Art: 8.5 Overall: 8.5
Dark Wolverine #86 – I missed the second part of tis multi series crossover. Can’t say I’m disappointed about that. Bring on the new series.
Story: 7 Art: 8.5 Overall: 7.
Wolverine: Weapon X #13 – I’m intrigued by the use of Roxxon and the Deathloks story. Are evil corporations the new Marvel go to bad guy?
Story: 8 Art: 8 Overall: 8
X-Force #27 – Cyclops makes the decision to take the fight to the future.
Story: 8.25 Art: 8.5 Overall: 8.25
X-Men Second Coming Revelations Blind Science – The weakest chapter so far in Second Coming.
