Beronas War Preview Book COVI’ve never even heard of Berona’s War, when an email hit my inbox with a preview of Berona’s War Preview Book.  The book is meant to serve as an introduction to Berona’sWar: Field Guide (July) and Berona’s War: Fight For Amity (Winter).  It’s a perfect starting off point for those who are looking to get into this series, and you should check out the series written and illustrated by Anthony Coffey  and Jesse Labbé.

Cute and cuddly on the outside, but malevolent to the core, the Ele-Alta and Cropones will continue to battle even at the risk of extinction! After two races claim the same piece of land, words turn to rage, rage turns to battle and a battle turns to war. The island of Berona will claim countless lives and lay witness to the horrors that greed has to offer!

The comic is awesome.  It begins with a breakdown of the various factions and what you need to know then is followed by a few short stories.  It’s cute and fuzzy creatures who are just beyond violent.  It’s great.

This is a must buy and to find out why read the full review below.  But you can also check out the preview posted this weekend.

Plot: The entire point of this book is right in the title, it’s a preview.  It’s goal is to introduce you to the world and war, and it succeeds.  I came away wanting to read more.  I want to see what comes out in July and in the winter.  It’s a big war story staring cute small creatures, with a massive blood lust.  Rating: 9.75

Art: The art style is fantastic and reminiscent of some of the indie video games out there like Castle Crashers.  It’s comical, but still fits the storyline.  The character designs are top notch and each character has a very distinct personality.  The detail level when it comes to the characters and background is perfect.  And I don’t even feel like I need to go into the page designs, they’d be as top notch as you’d expect.  Rating: 10

Overall Rating: The only thing that keeps this from getting a perfect 10 is I wanted more!  There’s three short stories that give you a general sense of what you’d expect, and I just wanted more of that.  The art is great, the story and background is fantastic.  Anthony Coffey  and Jesse Labbé have put together a top notch product here.  This is a great bang for the buck.  Do me a favor this week and make sure to pick this up, you won’t be disappointed.  It’s a great place to start.  Overall rating: 9.75
