Writer and director Kevin Smith ruminated on the topic in his movie Chasing Amy, but Archie Comics has announced to keep up with the times it’ll introduce it’s first openly gay character in Veronica #202.

The character, Kevin Keller, comes out to Jughead (who’s sexuality has been questioned for quite a while) while discussing Veronica’s interest in Kevin.  Jughead instead of seizing on the moment to come out himself (c’mon people, you know he is) uses the opportunity to play a prank on Veronica.

Archie Comics states that this move is “is part of the commitment to keep Archie properties reflective of the current world of teens and teen media”.
