The GLAAD awards celebrates gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgendered in popular culture.  This Saturday New York hosted the event.  Detective Comics, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Madame Xanadu, Secret Six and X-Factor were nominated in the comic book category.  And the winner was…. Detective Comics.

The series written by Greg Rucka and published by DC comics features Batwoman and her alter ego Kate Kane who is a lesbian.  Bleeding Cool has an interesting post on the history of the character and some of the controversy surrounding her.
