Trials aren’t easy.  I just finished sitting as a juror in a murder trial here in Arlington, VA.  A trial involving a shooting and attempted robbery of a comic book store is winding down in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

David Pirkola was robbed in April, 2008 and shot in the abdomen.  Jevon Marquis Sawyer, 20 years old, is accused on the crime.  Sawyer is facing felony counts of armed robbery, conspiracy, assault with intent to murder and a weapons-related offense.

During the trial, Assistant Kent County Prosecutor Blair Lachman presented video evidence Sawyer was the gunman. He also said he was aided by 20-year-olds James Thompson, who acted as lookout; and Marvin Michael-Marquis Jones, who was driving a get-away car.  Jones was sentenced in April to seven to 30 years in prison for his part in the shooting.

It’s not easy sitting in the jury, or really being any part of a trial.  Here’s hoping justice is served and Pirkola makes a full recovery.
