Weekly Purchases

It was Free Comic Book Day on Saturday, so on top of my monthly purchases I was able to get some great free comics to read (and some for the nephews).  We’ll review the normal monthly comics first and get to the free ones after (there’s usually some gems in the bunch).  As always a big thank you to the Big Planet Comics staff.  My store of choice in the DMV.

Monthly Comics

Captain America Comics -Marvel celebrates it’s 70th year by looking at their beginnings.

Captain America: Theater at War – A Brother in Arms – I’ve been a fan of these one shots over the last few months.  This is another story set in WWII focusing on what it means to be a brother in arms and the honor that exists.

Dark Avengers #4 – The fight with Morgan Le Fey comes to a close, as the second arc begins.  A nice beginning and set up for the series.

Dark Reign: the Cabal – Short stories concerning the members of the Cabal.  I think a pretty decent read.

Female Force: Hillary Clinton – Bluewater Comics attempts to copy the success IDW had with their Presidential candidate series.

Female Force: Sarah Palin –Bluewater Comics attempts to copy the success IDW had with their Presidential candidate series.

Green Lantern #40 – A new law is written in the Book of Oa.

the Literals #1 – How do you take on someone who can write you out of existence?  The Fables mus figure out how to contend with their version of God, the writer of their stories.

the Muppet Show #1 and #2 – Cute, definitely a decent comic for kids, some good humor that got me to laugh for a bit.  Not quite as subversive as the television show.

Runaways #9 – The zombie story line seemed a little rushed and wrapped up quickly.  Something is really off with this series.  Definitely getting dropped.

Sub-Mariner Comics #1 – Marvel celebrates it’s 70th year by looking at their beginnings.

Thunderbolts #131 – Hmm, who wins, I say Deadpool, cause he hooked the Black Widow II.

Uncanny X-Men #509 – Matt Fraction tries to tap some of the political undertones of the classic X-Men stories as their enemies plan moves forward.

Unknown Soldier #7

War Machine #5 – War Machine deals with the Ultimo virus.
