Weekly Purchases

It’s been three long weeks and some excellent comics were missed.  But, I’m all caught up and back for some reviews!

Monthly Purchases

Astonishing X-Men #25 – I didn’t see what the hype was about Joss Whedon’s just completed run on the series.  Warren Ellis’ take on the team should be fun to read.  This issue brings the title into better continuity as the X-Men settle in San Francisco.

Avengers: The Initiative #15 – Continuing the Secret Invasion story 3-D Man must deal with the Skrull plot he’s uncovered.

Black Summer #7 – Is it over yet?  A series with such grand political potential turned into one giant gun fight.

Cable #5 – And speaking of gun fights, Cable deals with Bishop in the future as he tries the protect the mutant baby.

Captain America #40 – Not as political as previous issues, this issue pits the two Captain Americas against each other.  Brubaker even does action well.

Captain Britain and MI13 #2 and #3 – The series is a little deep in back story for me, but it has potential to be an interesting take on the more magic based stories of the Marvel universe.

DMZ #33 – Part 5 of “Blood in the Game” storyline.  NYC prepares for election day, will Delgado Nation win?

Guardians of the Galaxy #3 – A great new series that deals with the cosmic aspect of the Marvel universe.  Fun writing and team interaction.  Good so far.

Invincible Iron Man #3 – Stane still plots to kill Stark.  Excellent series.

Iron Man #31 – Something about mini-nukes and a floating mechanical brain.  Invincible is the better of the two series.

the Mighty Avengers #16 – We get to see how Elektra was switched with a Skrull.

the New Avengers #43 – More fighting in the Savage Land as we sort out who’s a Skrull and who isn’t.

New Warriors #14 – The team sort of gets pulled into Secret Invasion as the series begins to pivot it’s focus.

Secret Invasion #4 – Nick Fury and his new team kicks Skrull butt, nuff said.

Secret Invasion: Frontline #1 – The series focuses on the Secret Invasion of the Skrulls from a regular persons point of view.

Secret Invasion: Skrulls! – A handy book with tons of background on Skrulls.

Thunderbolts #122 – We get to see the team as they get dragged into the greater Secret Invasion storyline.

Uncanny X-Men #500 – A new creative team and direction.  The team is now headquartered in San Francisco which has declared itself a Mutant Haven.  There was some hints of nostalgia as to the style and writing and I look forward to the plot.

The Walking Dead #50 – An interesting issue for a milestone issue like this.  A very good quick story that takes us to the next phase of the series.

X-Factor #33 – The team moves to Detroit.

X-Force #5 – An interesting book, we get to see more of the Purifiers and their greater plot.

X-Men Legacy #214 – Professor X continues to fight Sinister.

Young X-Men #4 – The Young X-Men take on the New Evil Brotherhood of Mutants, but who’s the good guys?
