Comic Creators React To The Secret History Of DB Cooper

January 28, 2012

Official Press Release

COMIC CREATORS REACT TO THE SECRET HISTORY OF DB COOPER!

With only two months left until the truth is made known, and amidst continued government interference, a handful of comic creators have decided to take the risk and read the first issue of Brian Churilla’s THE SECRET HISTORY OF DB COOPER. Simply knowing the truth is dangerous enough, but in a show of support they have all stepped forward to add their praise to the upcoming comic! THE SECRET HISTORY OF DB COOPER hits comic stores world wide on March 14th 2012. The truth will be known!

“DANG! Killer! This comic is CRAZY COOL, beautiful to look at and a blast to read!”

-Michael Allred (Madman, iZOMBIE)

“Few people can pull off the strangeness and monster boogie the way Brian Churilla does with THE SECRET HISTORY OF D. B. COOPER. He takes history and conspiracy and samurai swords and one-eared teddy bears, tosses them in a blender with lots of slime-dripping beasties, and mixes up a story of mental warfare that goes down nice and smooth. Here’s a secret that deserves to see the light of day.”

-Cullen Bunn (The Sixth Gun, Wolverine)

“This is the book Brian Churilla was born to create. Eerie, compelling, energetic, fun … packed with monsters, mystery, mind-tripping and mayhem. I can’t wait to delve deeper into the secrets…”

-Kurt Busiek (Astro City)

“A dazzling work of sheer lunacy. Everything you want from a conspiracy comic, plus, Monsters!”

-Joshua Hale Fialkov (I; Vampire, Echoes)

“The only mystery more confounding than the ultimate fate of D.B. Cooper is why Brian Churilla isn’t already the biggest thing in comics. After readers get a look at THE SECRET HISTORY OF D.B. COOPER that will change in a hurry.”

-Phillip Hester (Wonder Woman, The Darkness)

“Brian Churilla has taken one of the greatest mysteries of the 20th century and transformed it into one of the most innovative comics of the 21st. THE SECRET HISTORY OF DB COOPER is absolutely required reading.”

-Joe Keatinge, (Glory, Hell Yeah)

“Wow. I love this book.”

-Mike Mignola (Hellboy)

“I love what [Brian] does, it has so much punch, vitality, and fun in it… The book is loaded with fun stuff: inter-dimensional travel, intrigue, otherworldly monsters, a wicked little teddy bear… you won’t be disappointed!”

-J.H. Willaims III (Batwoman)

“A super surreal pulp-infused assassin story topped up with violence and sass.”

-Jim Zub (Skullkickers, Makeshift Miracle)

Esteemed Artist J.H. Williams III Provides Alternate Cover For Oni’s D.B. Cooper #1

December 15, 2011

Official Press Release

ESTEEMED ARTIST J.H. WILLIAMS III PROVIDES ALTERNATE COVER FOR ONI’S D.B. COOPER #1

Oni Press is pleased to announce that the debut issue of its brand-new series The Secret History of D.B. Cooper will ship with an alternate cover by innovative comics creator J.H. Williams III (Promethea, Batwoman). This extra special variant will be shipped to participating comics shops at a 1-to-10 ratio when The Secret History of D.B. Cooper #1 hits stands in March 2012. The standard cover is drawn by series creator Brian Churilla.

The Secret History of D.B. Cooper is a full-color series written and drawn by Brian Churilla (The Anchor, The Avengers and the Infinity Gauntlet) detailing the previously untold story of what really happened forty years ago when a man calling himself D.B. Cooper skyjacked an airplane, collected a ransom, and parachuted into oblivion taking the loot with him. Churilla’s comic book retelling uncovers a vast conspiracy lurking behind the legend of D.B. Cooper. The actual tale is almost too strange to be believed, and yet too important to ignore.

Oni Press will celebrate the launch of this exciting new title with the special variant. “J.H. Williams is practically a legend himself,” commented series editor James Lucas Jones. “We’re all big fans of his work. His striking compositions are often like puzzles in that the more you look at them, the more you will find hidden, mysterious depths. This makes him the perfect artist to lend his hand to Brian’s unraveling of the D.B. Cooper folklore.”

“This story has intrigued me even since I was a little kid,” Churilla said. “To get to play around with the mythos in comic book form is a dream come true, and that dream has only gotten better after seeing how J.H. has chosen to interpret the material. If I were picking this comic up at my local store, I’d totally buy the one with his cover on it.”

The Secret History of D. B. Cooper #1 has a $3.99 cover price and goes on sale on March 14, 2012 at finer comic shops worldwide.

Preview – The Secret History of D.B. Cooper #1

THE SECRET HISTORY OF D.B. COOPER #1

Written and illustrated by Brian Churilla
Monthly starting in March 2012

It’s our contention that the FBI’s recent inclusion of amateur sleuths in the forty-year search for infamous hijacker D.B. Cooper is part of an elaborate ruse being perpetrated on the public.  Furthermore, this is likely part of an attempt by the government to discredit the forthcoming Oni Press series, THE SECRET HISTORY OF D.B. COOPER, which finally reveals the truth regarding the case. In our continuing effort to subvert the government’s unending campaign of misinformation, we have decided to release a preview of the first issue.

From creator Brian Churilla, the book chronicles the life of the mythic folk hero, revealing that “The DB Cooper Incident” was not a hijacking and extortion plot as widely reported. In fact, this cover story is quite pedestrian, as what really happened nearly changed the course of human history.

Review – The Engineer: Konstrukt

January 10, 2011

Bookmark and Share

The Engineer KonstruktThere’s a reason we named Archaia the publisher of the year for 2010.  The Engineer: Konstrukt is a perfect example of the quality they put out.  It’s a fantastic hardcover collecting the series for the bottom basement price of $9.95.  It’s a steal, and it’s helpful the comic books are really entertaining.

An ancient sentient entity is feasting on the very fabric of space and time. Only one man can stop it: The Engineer.

Utilizing a colossal pipe organ that enables pan-dimensional travel, The Engineer pursues the lost components of The Konstrukt, an archaic mechanism that imbues whoever possesses it with the ability to manipulate reality itself. The Engineer endeavors to restore The Konstrukt, using it to defeat the creature and undo the incalculable damage already done.

The comic book is just crazy with weird space crabs and missions to rebuild this mechanism.  It has a vibe very reminiscent of Hellboy in it’s tone and look.  Written by Brian Churilla and Jeremy Shepherd with art by Churilla, the package is just solid, especially for the price.

There’s fun action, great humor and a story I swear they had to be on something to write.  If you like other series like Hellboy, this is an absolute buy.
