TV Review: The Walking Dead S.4 Ep.13 – Alone

Warning Spoilers Ahead

the walking dead season 4The Walking Dead opens up with a flashback and answers the question we’ve been wondering, how Bob Stookey met up our group of survivors. Through a pretty bleak opening we see him before he met anyone and get a glimpse of some fo what he did to survive. From there, we flash to Bob, Sasha, and Maggie struggling against walkers in a dense fog. Later they come across the sign for sanctuary and debate whether to follow it or not.

Meanwhile Daryl and Beth are getting along nicely, where Daryl is teaching Beth some survival techniques like tracking and how to use the crossbow. Unfortunately an accident ends the training and forces them to change their plans a bit. They instead head to a house which is kept up quite well, as if someone was recently there. They have to decide what to do, since someone is likely there, do they want to take it all or leave it for the unknown resident. they decide to relax with Beth playing the piano while Daryl falls asleep.

Back to the trio, Maggie bolts, leaving Bob and Sasha alone. Maggie comes across a walker and uses the blood to leave a message. Bob and Sasha follow her and discuss their situation.

Meanwhile at the house, Beth and Daryl’s peace is interrupted as they’re assaulted by a pack of walkers. During their escape, Beth is grabbed by an unknown individual in a car. It’s a pretty shocking moment, and very unexpected.

Back to Sasha and Bob, they’re still following Maggie and get to a point where Sasha wants to stop, but Bob doesn’t want to stay. Instead a moment we all expected to come happens, leading to a heartbreaking scene. What happens next is a bit predictable, But still solid.

There, some unpredictable things happen with Daryl, creating a plot thread that’s unexpected and I have no idea where it’s going.

The episode continues the multiple story lines and chops them up pretty well. There’s a lot in this more muted, quieter episode, some action, some character movement. But, overall, it’s a bridge episode, adding to the plot of the greater season instead of standing on its own.

Glenn finally followed the tracks? Looks like Tyresse/Carol’s group: one of the girls gets eaten?
