As expected The Dark Knight Rises held the top spot at the weekend box office dropping 60.5% from the previous week and bringing in an estimated $64.1 million. The Dark Knight’s dropped 54% in it’s second weekend, so this third film isn’t doing as well, and more than likely the Olympics is the cause. Friday night was lower than Saturday, more than likely from people watching the opening ceremonies. The top 12 films was off more than 20% from the same frame last year.
The Dark Knight Rises’ 10-day domestic total of $289 million is behind The Dark Knight’s 10-day cumulative of $313.8 million. The Avengers had made $373.1 million at this point to compare. Worldwide The Dark Knight Rises has earned $537.3 million. Overseas is bringing in about 46% of the earnings. That’s about exactly the same as The Dark Knight.
